PROJECT OVERVIEW

BIAD was conceived in response to the accelerating digital transformation of the tourism and hospitality sector and the widening gap between academic curricula and industry needs. The project addresses the urgent necessity to integrate AI literacy, data-driven decision-making and sustainability-oriented competences into education and vocational training systems.

The initiative builds structured cooperation between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Vocational Education and Training providers (VETs), SMEs, Chambers of Commerce and public stakeholders, creating a multi-level ecosystem for innovation.

PROJECT

OBJECTIVES

BIAD pursues the following strategic objectives:

  • Strengthen AI and digital competences within tourism and hospitality education and training.

  • Bridge the structural gap between academia and industry through co-designed curricula.

  • Develop modular, stackable and micro-credential-based learning pathways.

  • Align training frameworks with European competence models (DigComp, EntreComp, GreenComp).

  • Foster inclusive access to digital upskilling and reskilling opportunities.

  • Establish a sustainable digital learning ecosystem supported by an AI-driven monitoring system.

RATIONALE

The tourism and hospitality sector is undergoing rapid technological change. Artificial Intelligence, automation, data analytics and platform-based business models are reshaping service delivery and management practices. However, educational programmes often struggle to keep pace with these developments.

BIAD intervenes by:

  • Mapping emerging skill needs through AI-supported monitoring tools.

  • Co-designing curricula with industry stakeholders.

  • Embedding European competence frameworks into training modules.

  • Creating modular and stackable learning pathways.
